Hope

Slow down your breathing, until it is gentle, smooth, and soft. Let go of any tension in your body by relaxing your jaw, your shoulders, your fingertips, even your toes. Continue until you feel light, fresh, and free.

Read the following Scripture verse slowly, savoring each word:

Give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In his great mercy he has given us a new birth and a hope that is alive. (1 Peter 1:3)

Ask yourself three questions: How do I put my trust in God? To Whom do I offer comfort? Where do I find beauty? Sit with these questions for a while. Do not judge yourself for any of the answers. Welcome them and accept them.

Take note of any strong feelings associated with your answers. Which ones bring a feeling of warmth, peace, joy, or fulfillment? Which ones bring feelings of coldness, anxiety, sadness, or emptiness? Does any feeling stand out from the others?

Imagine having a conversation with Jesus. Share with him whatever is on you mind and in your heart. Ask him how he would answer any of these questions for you. How does he respond? What does he say you need to be a person of hope?

Ask for whatever graces you need to be that person and resolve to be live hope tomorrow.

Close with this prayer or with one of your own: Lord, show me your love so that I may live your love. Amen.
